WHAT IS STEEP SLOPE ROOFING?
Steep slope roofing refers to any roof with a pitch of 3:12 or greater – meaning at least 3 inches of rise for every 12 inches of horizontal run. This is the most common roofing category for residential homes across the GTA, covering everything from bungalows and semi-detached properties to large custom builds.
The defining characteristic of a steep slope system is drainage by gravity. Unlike flat roofs that rely on membranes and internal drains, steep slope roofs shed water naturally through their angle. This makes proper installation of the underlayment and surface material critical – every layer must work together to move water off the roof and away from the building envelope before it finds a penetration point.
Steep slope roofing is available in several material types, with asphalt shingles being the dominant choice across Canada due to their cost-effectiveness and reliable performance in cold climates. Metal shingles, synthetic slate and cedar shake are also widely used alternatives, each offering different aesthetics and lifespan characteristics to suit different property types and budgets.

Every steep slope project includes full removal of the existing roofing material, inspection and repair of the decking where required, installation of a proper underlayment system and surface installation performed to manufacturer specifications. We don’t skip steps on detailing or flashing – because that’s where most roof failures begin and where corners are most commonly cut.
